Under stress, check jaw
Relax tension, watch mind
Most people look for big tools to deal with stress.
Today I want to give you a very small one.
When you are under stress –
or when emotions, triggers, and thoughts start to rise –
don’t go into your mind first.
Go to your jaw.
Notice: am I biting down?
Am I clenching without even realising it?
If yes:
- Bring your attention to your jaw.
- Feel how hard you are biting.
- Consciously relax your jaw while you breathe out.
- Stay there for a few seconds and just observe.
Then watch what happens to:
- the stress,
- the emotion,
- the trigger loop in your head.
You are not fixing your life with this.
You are changing how your nervous system holds tension in this moment.
And once you understand what happens when you relax your jaw,
you can use this anywhere:
- while waiting,
- in meetings,
- in traffic,
- when nothing “special” is going on.
Just consciously relax your jaw
and see what shifts.
If this kind of simple structural work speaks to you,
you are in the right place.
